Jaina Kalifa is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and freelance director, shooter, and editor. He has 14 years’ experience working on everything from commissions for not-for-profits and government departments to freelance roles for major production companies and broadcasters (ABC, Channel 7, Discovery, SBS). He loves to create authentic and emotionally engaging stories and has a special interest in complex characters, social issues and the environment.

In 2021, Jaina received an Australian Directors' Guild award for Lost Contact, which also won the Oscar-qualifying Best Documentary award at St Kilda Film Festival. His half-hour documentary Happy Android premiered at Hot Docs 2019 in Toronto and won a number of awards on the festival circuit before being broadcast on ABC TV’s Compass program. His short Strudel Sisters was published by The Atlantic and in Official Selection for Hot Docs 2016 and Sydney Film Festival. He has a Master of Screen Production (Documentary Production) with Distinction from Griffith Film School.
